He is just celebrating being 1 month old, but it has been quite a month for him.
Good news is we have found some things that will most likely (fingers crossed) help with his gas and general unhappiness. First of all, I have been exclusively nursing Bennett which until today has been successful. At his weight check he only gained 3 ounces in 10 days. Writing about his inability to gain weight makes me feel like the worst mom in the world, especially since I nurse him all darn day! His lack of weight gain could be contributed to his intolerance of milk in my breast milk, inability to suck efficiently or his body is unable to absorb nutrients. Not only has he not gained weight his stools have been dark green and the wrong consistency. The intervention is to continue nursing (avoiding all milk products) but supplement with formula and hope for weight gain with healthier stools. Just today, with the few ounces of formula he has been so much more content. I can't begin to explain how hard the past week has been and how guilty I feel that he hasn't been getting enough food...but I am hopeful we can make our sweet baby healthy!
