Bob and I were laughing today when we left the Home Depot. It all started because we had gone to dinner and Pax had already been confined to a high chair and we didn't want to confine him again in the shopping cart. Bob suggested, "Just carry him in, and let him walk around. That's what I do." I am thinking, really? You let a 1 year old "just walk around?" Everything is in his reach, he could dig into boxes of screws (he did), pull off signs (he did), get going so fast that he could fall onto the hard, slick concrete floors (he did). So I chased Pax through the isles of Home Depot while Bob found the anchor screws he needed for the shelves for the garage. Bob made his purchase, and afterwards we let him run a few more isles, why not? We were only getting a few dirty looks from employees and we needed to wear him out as it was getting close to bedtime. The best part, I tell Pax it's time to leave and he screams in protest about leaving. Really Pax? Of all the places you have been this summer (Paradise Park, Summit Waves, Zoo, neighborhood pool) its Home Depot you throw a fit about wanting to stay and play!!?? Bob and I laughed as I carried screaming Pax out of Home Depot to the car. We were reminded that it's the simple things that make Pax happy. It doesn't have to be complicated or expensive. Honestly, though, I think Bob is in love with the idea that Pax wants to spend time at Home Depot. Although I think we both know its not Home Depot Pax is in love with, rather it is the idea of being free to wander without any restraint! I wonder how he will handle being strapped into the shopping cart the next time we visit Home Depot?!
